중국에서 자란 추이 이 감독은 생태학을 전공했지만 결국 영화를 하기로 마음먹은 뒤 토론토의 요크대학으로 영화 제작과정을 이수했다.

추이 이는 실험영화, 다큐멘터리, 에세이 필름과 극영화에 대한 연구를 시작했다.

작품에서의 시와 음악성에 대한 연구를 해나가는 중이다.

YI Cui, born and raised in China, initially studied Conservation Ecology, but eventually decided to study Film instead.

After studying Film Production at the York University in Toronto, she started working on a body of work consisting of experimental films, documentaries, film essays and narrative films. The constant search for poetry and musicality is a recurring theme in her work.
