"My Mom Shines Even Brighter Because She's Different" I chose this title because I wanted to avoid using the word “disability.” A mallard lost one of her webbed feet, yet she raised her five ducklings with such grace and confidence that she seemed like the very embodiment of motherhood in the natural world. Throughout my life, I have found glimpses of myself in countless novels and films. But in this mother mallard, I saw myself more than ever before. It was both unsettling and deeply comforting.
