This year’s SISFF Korean Feature Special presents four films that explore the relationships between older and younger generations in today’s Korea, as well as the country’s turbulent modern history. Red Nails offers a delicate portrayal of a young woman navigating an uncertain stage of life while caring for her mother with dementia. A Ray of Sunlight tenderly uncovers the unspoken emotions with-in a family through events surrounding an old laundromat, offering a thoughtful look at mother-daughter dynamics and the complexities of familial bonds. Mother’s Household Ledger tells the story of a family’s history through a mother’s hand- written account book. KOREAN DREAM: the Nama-jinheung Mixtape reconstructs 60 films produced by the Nama-jinheung Production Company from the 1960s to the 1980s, capturing South Korea’s Cold War era and period of rapid social and economic change.
