A train arrives at Seoul Station, and a mother and daughter disembark. A young man approaches to help, and the scene shifts to a rural landscape where Yeong-bok (Lee Wan-yong), dressed in hanbok, carries wood down a hillside. Yeong-bok is an honest man who has worked for seven years as a live-in son-in-law at Bong-seon’s (Moon Gyeong-sim) home. When Bong-seon leaves him for the cunning Myeong-gu (Yang Cheol), Yeong-bok departs, leaving behind his mother and younger sister, Yeong-ok (Shin Il-seon).
