*Trends in submissions to the International Short Film Competition
This year’s International Short Film Competition was very impressive, with a large number of entries featuring diverse perspectives from around the world and outstanding artistic quality. Especially in Europe, high-quality feature films stood out, and it was evident that they richly conveyed positive discourse on intergenerational communication and universal issues. In particular, from a thematic perspective, it became clear that the global perspective on the life of old age, and more broadly on the pathological aspects of old age represented by dementia, has grown deeper and renewed. Breaking existing prejudices, we hope to see this work expand into a wider range of formats and genres in the future, including more diverse attempts to portray joyful and independent old age through various genres such as comedy and action, as well as original animations and documentary AI films.
