해병대 군복을 입고 보수단체의 집회에 나가곤 하는 김만복 할아버지. 국밥집에서 ‘늙으면 죽어야한다’는 청년의 말을 듣고 격분해 시비를 걸지만 청년은 그 말을 기억조차 못한다. 김노인은 실버영화관과 아트시네마가 공존하는 낙원상가로 발걸음을 옮긴다. 이번엔 담배를 피고 있는 젊은 여자에게 시비를 거는데... 하지만 도심 한 가운데 섬처럼 떠 있는 이 극장은 나이도 성별도 사상도 성향도 다른 두 사람이 서로 얼굴을 마주하며 얘기를 나누고 화해할 수 있게 하는 마술같은 공간이다.

Wearing his military uniform, senior citizen Kim Man-bok attends assemblies of right-wing organizations. In a bar one day, he comes into conflict with a young man who he hears to say, “When a person gets old, he should die”, but the youngster apparently dosen’t remember saying this. Kim then goes to the Nakwon shooping distrct where both the Silver Cinema and the Seoul Art Cinema are located-and gere, he rebukes a young ladt for smoking. This cinema, like an island in the middle of the city, becomes a magical place that allows these two people-of different gendes, ideologies, and dispositions-to talk face-to-face and reconcile their differences.
