호동할매는 일제 강점기에 태어나 3살 때 엄마를 잃고 홀아비 손에 자라다 위안부에 끌려가지 않기 위해 결혼을 한다. 하지만 그와 결혼한 남편은 매질을 일삼았고 남편의 술주정에 아이마저 잃었다. 모진 세월을 겪고도 글자를 깨우치려는 호동할매의 이야기를 조금이나마 기록해 본다.
<Synopsis>
Born during the Japanese colonial period, Grandma Hodong lost her mother at the age of 3, and was raised by her father. She got married to avoid being forcibly recruited as a comfort woman for the Japanese military. However, her husband turned out be the violent type, and in his drunkenness, even made her lost their child. Life has treated her harshly, but even after all these years, Grandma Hodong tries to learn how to read and write.
